Is this a breed for you?
The Belgian Malinois is a watchful and active dog, bursting with energy,
always ready to leap into action. It possesses the highly prized qualities
of the best guard dog of property, and without hesitation is a stubborn and
keen protector of its owner. It brings together all the qualities for a
shepherd, guard, defense and service dog. Malinois are very eager to please,
making them one of the easiest breeds to train. They require considerable
patience as a pup, but, a hard hand or harsh voice, is not needed and should
not be used. A Malinois of correct temperament and properly trained, will be
faithful and loving to its family members of all ages. Most are very
reserved with strangers. which some people mistake as shyness. They need to
be a part of the family and will willingly participate in everything you do.
They do not thrive as a kennel dog, total outside dog, and most definitely
are not a couch potato breed. Without sufficient exercise of body and mind
and attention from its owner, a Malinois can be very destructive. They
hunger for your attention and will cuddle as close as they can get. from
which they are often called "velcro dog".
PLEASE, research this breed carefully and be prepared to give it what it
needs, before you decide to bring one into your family.
